Once A Queen
(With Deference to Ella Wheeler Wilcox)
In all the world, it should be foresworn
There’s nothing sadder or so forlorn
As a sailing vessel on her side
A fallen victim to the surging tide.
What once was proud and so serene
Full of majesty like a queen
Now left strewn to rocks on portside lain
Sacrificed to the mighty hurricane.
A vivid reminder to all who sail
That today’s calm winds are tomorrow’s gale
So when your anchor and soft sands meet
Be grateful for a safe retreat. |
