Who: Diana on Windbird
Age: Ageless
Home: Wherever Windbird’s anchor hits the soft sand .
We met Diana at Mario’s Marina in the Rio Dulce.
What Makes Her Interesting? Diana is a retired electrical engineer who lives with her “girls” – Indi and Missy - two beautiful full-grown Macaws on her sailboat. Whenever Diana comes ashore, she brings the birds and puts them in a tree. They are free to roam around the tree, but they can’t fly because she keeps their feathers clipped.
When Windbird is out sailing, the girls get to roam around the lines and rigging of the boat. But, Diana has to keep a watchful eye because if they fall in the water, they could drown. Their feathers have no oil which makes them more like sponges soaking up the water.

Indi is 11 years old and has lived with Diana her entire life. Missy is eight and came onto Windbird when she was two. The life expectancy of a Macaw is over sixty years. Diana fully expects the birds to outlive her and if that happens, she’s instructed friends in the cruising community to see that they get to Macaw Mountain, an aviary in Honduras dedicated to the preservation of the colorful fowl.
Philosophy of Life: “Don’t take life so seriously, we’re only stardust!
