“The Ultimate Insult”
I’ll never forget the three overnights that it took for us to sail from Florida to Puerto Rico. We had our six year old daughter and three-month old son with us. Because I was nursing him, I couldn’t take any medication for seasickness. It wasn’t long into the trip before I was overcome with nausea. For the entire three days, I lay in the bow berth with the two children. I didn’t eat or drink anything and when we finally made landfall, I was extremely weak. When I came up the companionway, my husband, George, was irritatingly recording my re-emergence into the land of the living with our video camera. He asked me to tell everybody “how I had enjoyed the crossing.” Trying to think of the worst insult I could hurl at the whole experience, I responded “I’d rather be in labor!” Any woman knows that if you’d rather be in labor than do something, it must be horrible.
